THE Talisay City government is establishing a City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) to address the city’s environmental concerns.
The Talisay City Council approved the creation of the city’s Cenro in last week’s session.
The resolution, sponsored by City Councilor Antonio Bacaltos Jr., was approved unanimously thereby authorizing the city mayor to create it and allocate its funds.
“There is a need to have a Cenro at this time to seriously implement environmental laws and effectively manage the environment and natural resources of the City of Talisay,” Bacaltos said.
The 1991 Local Government Code empowers the local government unit to create its own Cenro.
In 2013, the 4th Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) pushed for the CENRO creation through an ordinance.
However, this was not realized over the years.
Under the ordinance in the creation of Cenro, the office will formulate measures for the consideration of the SP and provide technical assistance and support to the mayor in carrying out measures to ensure the delivery of basic services and provision of adequate facilities relative to environment and natural resources services.
Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas had earlier said that helping manage the reforestation in mountain areas of the city may help mitigate flooding.
The head for the Cenro has yet to be identified by the city government.
