Dragons escape Legends in USC hoops

THE 1993 Dragons got back at their finals’ tormentors, the reigning champions 1985 Legends, in a thrilling barnburner, 61-60, in Division 1 action in the University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference President’s Cup last weekend at the USC North Campus gym.

In a rematch of the fiery championship game of this division in the last conference, the Legends actually led, 60-59, when Dragons big man Bong Eleazar was fouled with 3.3 seconds left. He buried both to put Batch 1993 in front.

Just like the last time they met, the Legends found star forward Lou Regidor with a hail mary pass from the opposite backcourt.

However, unlike last time, where Regidor found the bottom of the net as time expired to give Batch 1985 the title, the former pro missed at the buzzer to hand the Dragons the victory.

Eleazar led the way for the Dragons, which evened their record up at 2-2 (win-loss), with 15 points while Roy Jumao-as and Jade Ylanan added 13 each.

Regidor had 27 to pace the Legends, who dropped to 4-1.
