HCS joins USJ-R in Shakey’s semis

JUST LIKE the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), the reigning champions Hope Christian School (HCS) completed a sweep of their elimination round games after beating the Central Philippines University (CPU) in convincing fashion in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League Tournament of Champions on Thursday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
HCS proved to be too dominant for the Western Visayas representatives as they emerged victorious, 25-5, 25-21, for a perfect 4-0 (win-loss) record after the elimination round.
More importantly, HCS grabbed the top seed in Pool A and will most likely face New Zealand in the semifinals this morning.
CPU, on the other hand, will tangle with USJ-R in the other semis pairing with the winners advancing to the championship game slated for 4 p.m.
Justine Dorog punched in seven hits while Caryl Sandoval and Ma. Lina Isabel Molde added six points apiece to power HCS to victory.
Meanwhile, Ateneo de Davao ended its campaign in Pool B on a winning note after defeating Leyte National High School in a tightly-fought three-set encounter, 25-23, 21-25, 25-23. In the other game, Angeles University Foundation posted its first win in three outings via a hard-earned 25-13, 20-25, 25-20 victory over Baguio City National HS (0-4). /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
