THE country’s top tennis players and brightest young stars gear up for a three-week intense competition as they battle it out in the Olivarez Cup 2016 on August 4 to 21 at the Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque.
Heading the star-studded cast in the tournament presented by Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala (PPS-PEPP) are former Davis Cup champion Francis Casey Alcantara and Khim Iglupas who are looking to defend the men’s and women’s titles against some of the best tennis players that the country has ever produced.
A few names in the long list include Cebuano and Division I star Jacob Lagman who is currently playing for the Saint Mary Gaels in the US NCAA, eight-time Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) champion and Cebuano Johnny Arcilla, PJ Tierro and sisters Clarice and Christine Patrimonio.
The junior age-grouper will start-off the event on August 4 with competitions in the boys and girls 10-unisex, 12, 14, 16 and 18-under singles and girls 10-U, 14, and 18-U doubles tournament.
Cebu’s Tiffany Claire Nocos and Chad Connor Cuizon will also be competing in the junior events of the competition.
