Tepora faces determined Capangpangan in main event of today’s ‘Who’s Next?’2 card

Trainer Christopher Tepora punched the air and yelled “yes!” when his brother Jhack was on the dot in yesterday’s weigh-in for the second installment of “Who’s Next?” Pro Boxing Series, which gets underway today at Robinsons Galleria Cebu Atrium.

Jhack was uneasy going into yesterday’s weigh-in at Robinsons Fuente, admitting he was unsure if he could make the 122-pound weight limit.

He claimed he only needed to urinate before stepping on the scales to make the weight
Ni kumpyansa ko na makuha ra akong timbang,” said Jhack.

That was just the initial test to hurdle as Jhack looks to overcome a determined foe, who vowed to do everything to become the first fighter to defeat the prized Omega Gym stalwart.

“I know he is unbeaten but I am confident I have (what) it takes to defeat him,” said Bryan Capangpangan (10W- 2L-1D-7KOs), who tipped the scales at 120 pounds.

Sporting a 17W-0L-0D-12KOs record, Tepora will be putting on the line his WBO Asia Pacific Youth Super Bantamweight title.

“I don’t feel any pressure. I trust myself. I’ll just do my best to win the fight by knockout or by points,” said Tepora.

Capangpangan assured he is well-prepared in his bid to stretch his nine-fight winning streak.

“I studied his style. He got good footwork and I might go for body shots to slow him down,” said Capangpangan, who last tasted defeat in Aug. 17 2013 when he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Melmark Dignos.

After that loss, Capangpangan, born in Cebu City but is now based in Iligan City, pocketed six straight wins before settling for a draw against Dondon Navarez last June 15 of last year. Capangpangan then racked up three wins since then.

In the co-main event, Kenny Demecillo (10W-3L-2D-7KOs) and Rambo Lagos (8W-1L-2D-5KOs) had less trouble making weight.

Demecillo, who will try to defend his WBF Asia Pacific Bantamweight belt, weighed 118 pounds, while Lagos was 117.75 pounds.

Another prized Omega Gym stalwart Christian Araneta (12W-0L,0D-9KOs) weighed 108 pounds, while his opponent Charlie Cabilla (14W-18L-4D-2KOs) was three pounds over the weight limit.
In the fight card’s special attraction, former Olympian Mark Anthony Barriga of J.S. Promotions weighed in at 108.5 pounds for his professional debut against Melvin Manangquil (109 lbs).

Managquil has one win, one defeat, two draws.

Other fights will have Jimboy Haya versus Fabio Marfa, Feljun “Baby Face” Taneo against Lenmar Prescillas, TomJune “Warrior” Mangubat against Arnel Acebuque, Mark Vicelles versus Jesrel Corabal and Marjun Piencenaves against Andrei Navarro.
