A Cebuano in Rio: The Doctor Diaries at the 2016 Olympics

And the journey begins. All of us have dreams . And one of my dreams is to be able to go to the Olympics.

But going there as an athlete is way out of the question now.

So when the opportunity to go there as a volunteer doctor came my way, I did not hesitate to grab it. After about a year since I applied, with skype interviews, simulation tests, checking of credentials and even a Spanish leveling test, I finally received an acceptance letter last December.

It was one of the best Christmas presents I received in my whole life.

Up to the time leading to my departure day, I had several e-mail communications from my venue manager. Assignment days, time, uniform pick up, arranging accommodations and preparing physically and mentally.

And finally, departure day is here. I’m now on my way to the biggest sporting event on earth.
My flight will take me to Taiwan then Amsterdam, Sao Paolo Brazil to Rio de Janeiro. The whole trip will take about 36 hours. Hope this will be all worth it.

Looking forward to an experience of a lifetime!!! RIO, here I come!!! / by Dr. Rhoel James Timothy Dejano
