THE Mandaue City Council met with the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) to discuss the increase in fines for traffic violators within the city after the approval of the “No Contact Apprehension Ordinance.”
TEAM operations chief Glenn Antigua said they will not allow passenger jeepneys from setting up illegal terminals or loading and unloading in non-designated areas. He said this happened along D.M. Cortes St.
He said jeepneys bound for Lapu-Lapu City waited across the street to pick up passengers.
Antigua reminded passenger jeepney drivers to only drop and pick up passengers on designated loading and unloading bays.
“Drivers who knew how to follow the traffic rules will not be apprehended by the traffic enforcers. They just have to follow where the right loading and unloading of passengers,” he said.
Based on the proposed amendments, a traffic violator who stops at a No-Stopping sign area will have to pay P500 from P200.
The same amount will also be charged to those who did not follow No U-Turn signs and other minor traffic violations.
Truck ban violators will pay P1,000, up from P500. Antigua said those planning to buy a car should look for designated parking areas.
Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing announced yesterday that the city government will reconstitute the Mandaue Traffic Board within the week.
