‘Ruby’ damage reports trickle in

By: Victor Anthony V. Silva December 12,2014 - 02:16 AM

Only three towns in northern Cebu have so far submitted damage reports  in agriculture four days after typhoon Ruby.

The biggest damage was reported in Tabogon worth P3.7 million in crops and livestock followed by Daanbantayan with P3.3 million (corn, banana, vegetables and vessels.)

Carmen had the least damage at P27,500.

Under the province’s  agri-fisheries insurance program, farmers will get paid for any insured commodities damaged by the storm through Philippine Crop Insurance Corp.

“Hopefully, those insured farmers will contact us or the PCIC so that a team can assess the extent of damage,” said Saragena. Roldan Saragena, head of the Provincial Agricultural Office.

The province can provide  short-duration vegetable seeds to farmers  but only in small quantities.

To speed up reporting, Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III  said they sent out  seven rapid assessment teams to check on the affected areas.

Priority for relief aid and assessment will be given to local governments of  Tabogon, Bogo City, Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, the three towns on Bantayan Island -Bantayan, Sta. Fe and Madridejos; and the four towns on Camotes Island, Poro, Tudela, Pilar and San Francisco.
