Visayas grid on yellow alert status Wednesday

MANILA, Philippines – The continued unavailability of generating units of several major coal-fired power plants placed anew the Visayas grid under yellow alert status on Wednesday, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, in an advisory, said the grid’s available capacity is around 2,552 megawatts (MW) while peak demand is projected to reach 2,392MW.

This was traced to high demand amid the insufficient capacity because of forced outage of units 1 and 2 of the Therma Visayas Inc., unit 3 of the Panay Energy Development Corporation, and unit 2 of KEPCO-SPC Power Corporation.
NGCP said a total of 10 plants are on forced outage this month alone, nine since May, one since March, three since 2025, two since 2024, two since 2023, and one since 2021.
