MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named former Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano as the new general manager of the state-owned People’s Television Network (PTV-4).

Cayetano’s appointment was confirmed by Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Dave Gomez on Wednesday. PTV-4 is an attached agency of the PCO.

A film and television director, Cayetano replaced Malou Choa-Fagar, who had served as PTV-4 head since August last year.

Choa-Fagar is a longtime television executive who previously worked with TAPE Inc., the producer behind the long-running noontime program Eat Bulaga.

No official explanation was given by Malacañang for the leadership change in the state media bureau.

“Former Mayor Cayetano brings with him a rare wealth of experience from the media, the private, and the public sectors that would certainly take PTV-4 to greater heights in our ever-evolving multimedia landscape,” Gomez said.

Cayetano describes himself as an “anti-trapo advocate,” despite being part of a political dynasty.

He is the younger brother of Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano and Senator Pia Cayetano.

Along with former Muntinlupa councilor Rene Carl Cayetano, the four siblings are children of the late broadcaster and veteran lawmaker Rene Cayetano.

The Senate majority’s leadership under Alan Peter Cayetano is being tested amid one controversy after another since the takeover last month. The Senate President accused the Marcos administration of meddling in the affairs of the legislature by ordering the arrest and investigation of the chamber’s majority bloc members.

Lino Cayetano entered politics when he served as chair of Barangay Fort Bonifacio in Taguig from 2010 to 2013. He then became a congressman from 2013 to 2016, serving as the representative of Taguig–Pateros’s second congressional district.

His last foray into politics was when he served as mayor of Taguig from 2019 to 2022. He did not seek reelection in 2022 and instead gave way to the return of his sister-in-law, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano, who is the wife of Alan Peter Cayetano.

He ran for congressman of Taguig–Pateros’ first district in 2025 but lost to Ricardo Cruz, who was backed by his brother Alan Peter and sister-in-law Lani.

The siblings’ relationship has become sour since then.

In October 2025, Lino challenged his brother, Senator Alan Peter, to lead by example by resigning from his post, after the lawmaker’s call for a mass resignation of officials amid the flood control scandal.

“Give up power. And this movement for real transformation will be a legacy our father will be truly proud of. Let’s lead,” he said in a Facebook post.

“The Senate will function without the Cayetanos while Taguig has a very capable vice mayor and the Cayetano political party has had 15 years to run Taguig City and institute reform,” he added.

“If you truly believe what you say, then trust and have faith that if some of the old guard step down now — it will inspire others to follow,” he also said.
