Cebu fishers receive ₱2K financial aid from BFAR

CEBU CITY, Philippines  — A total of 2,045 fisherfolk from Cebu’s 5th District received financial assistance from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Central Visayas (BFAR-7), under the Presidential Assistance to Farmers and Fisherfolk Program (PAFFP).

Each of them received ₱2,325 in cash assistance, which serves as support for agricultural workers affected by the increase in petroleum product prices due to ongoing tension in the Middle East.

The distribution ran from June 5, 2026, to June 5, 2026, during which the agency disbursed a total of ₱4.8 million to fisherfolk from Danao, Compostela, Consolacion, Liloan, Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Carmen, San Francisco, Poro, Tudela, and Pilar.

Beneficiaries were clustered during the payout for smooth and fast distribution.

Funded under general appropriations

Earlier, the government allocated ₱10 billion for the program under the General Appropriations Act.

On Monday, June 8, 2026, 376 Oponganons fisherfolk also received the said assistance.

The distribution was held at the Cordova Sports Complex in Barangay Poblacion, Cordova town.

Antonio Ompad, 57, a beneficiary from Sitio Candagsao, Barangay Talima, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the government for the assistance and support provided to fisherfolk.

“Para namo nga mananagat, dako kaayo ni nga tabang ang ayuda. Maayo na lang ni kay makapalit mi og pagkonsumo sa balay, ug kung adunay mahabilin, akong ipalit og gasolina para sa panagat. Mao nga dako among pasalamat sa national government ug sa atong Mayor Cindi Chan nga nakadawat mi aning ayuda,” Ompad said. (This is a big help for us fishers. It is good that we have this to help us buy goods for our household consumption. Whatever is left, we use to but fuel to go fishing. We are very grateful to the national government and Mayor Cindi Chan that we received asssistance.)
