Independence Day weather: Warm, humid conditions to persist in Cebu

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Cebuanos can expect warm and humid weather on Independence Day as the easterlies affect much of the country, the state weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecast temperatures in Cebu to range from 26 to 32 degrees Celsius on Friday, June 12.

While generally fair weather is expected throughout the day, Pagasa said isolated rain showers and thunderstorms may develop, particularly in the afternoon and evening,
This is due to localized thunderstorms and the easterlies, or warm and moist winds coming from the east.

“Sa mga may activities ngayong Araw ng Kalayaan, inaasahan natin ngayong umaga, medyo maliit pa ang posibilidad ng mga pag-ulan habang tumataas naman ang posibilidad ng mga pag-ulan sa hapon hanggang sa gabi,” weather specialist Obet Badrina said.
(Those with activities for Independence Day can expect a relatively low chance of rain this morning, while the likelihood of rain is expected to increase in the afternoon and continue into the evening.)

Habagat weakens
Pagasa said the southwest monsoon, or habagat, has weakened on Friday, leaving the easterlies as the dominant weather system affecting the country.
The weather system is expected to bring generally fair conditions nationwide, although localized thunderstorms may still trigger afternoon and evening rains.
The bureau said these rain showers would be more likely to affect the eastern sections of Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region.

Pagasa warned that moderate to heavy rains associated with thunderstorms could cause flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.
No LPA monitored
As of Friday morning, Pagasa had not monitored any low pressure area within or near the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
No gale warning has also been raised over any coastal waters.
The bureau advised the public and local government units to continue monitoring weather updates, especially as the rainy season progresses.
