Boy with anemia needs help

January 05,2016 - 02:08 AM

A 15-year-old boy from Kasambagan, Cebu City is in need of medical and financial assistance for his treatment.

Patrick Frans Bontogon has been confined at the Pediatric ICU of Chong Hua Hospital for several weeks now.

Those who wish to help Bontogon may coordinate with the Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko Foundation at the Cebu City Health building with contact numbers 2324706, 4129020 and (0917) 6257090 or deposit donations directly to UnionBank at account no. 00-112-000066-2. The name of Bontogon should be indicated in the deposit slip.

Bontogon was first diagnosed to have acute hemolytic anemia, which is caused by abnormal breakdown of red blood cells.

While undergoing treatment, Bontogon developed an infection and was admitted in the hospital.

However, a day before they were set to be discharged, Bontogon collapsed and was brain dead for 16 minutes. He was revived but he developed complications.

Days after, he flatlined more than 20 times and his family was told he wasn’t going to survive, but Bontogon did. He is now showing progress day by day.

Bontogon needs IVIG to boost his antibodies. A vial of this drug costs P17,000 and Patrick needs 10 vials.

Patrick’s mother, a single mother of two who works as a call center agent earning P15,000 a month, cannot sustain the needed medication.

She has exhausted all her savings and has resorted to personally appealing for help from several institutions and generous individuals.

Bontogon is asking kindhearted individuals to donate for his treatment.
