HEAVY rains yesterday afternoon brought waist-deep floods in Mandaue City, making some streets impassable
“Flood waters already reached waist-deep near LH Prime and Cebu Rolling Hills Memorial Chapel. The vehicles going to A.S. Fortuna were diverted to Sacris Road,” said Glen Antigua, Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) chief of operations.
A.S. Fortuna Street was also impassable because of the high flood levels.
Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) officer Feliz Suico said they deployed personnel to the different areas that had been identified as flood-prone.
These were Barangays Banilad, Cabangcalan and Subangdaku.
More rains are expected in the coming days because of an Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) in Mindanao is affecting the Visayas, according to Manny John Agbay, weather specialist of Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
“There is no major weather disturbance in the country but the ITCZ brings moderate to heavy rains,” Agbay said.
Pagasa recorded heavy rains from 2:08 to 3:05 p.m. Yesterday. As of 6 p.m., Pagasa recorded two millimeters of rain.
Two to four typhoons are however expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility in August.
The average amount of rainfall for August was 148.2 millimeters.
Rains and thunderstorms persisted for more than an hour, affecting the cities of Cebu, Talisay, Mandaue, Danao and Lapu-Lapu and the towns of Consolacion, Liloan, Compostela, Carmen and Cordova.
