FEWER athletes needed medical attention in this year’s Cobra IronMan 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championships, according to Dr. Peter Mancao, medical director of the race.
There were only 54 athletes who needed medical attention and Mancao said that this can can be attributed to the better weather.
“Primarily because the weather is a lot better than last year, and maybe the athletes are better prepared,” he said.
Most injuries were only minor such as sprains, cramps, dehydration, open wounds, lacerations and abrasions, and a case of jelly fish sting.
There was one female triathlete, whose name was withheld, who suffered a shoulder dislocation after getting kicked during the swim course. She was brought to the Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City./USJ-R Intern Dafne Wenceslao
