Tristan Albina exploded late in the game to help the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers defeat the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, 80–74, in overtime in the Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.
Albina finished with 19 points and made crucial three-point baskets in the fourth and the extra session as the Green Lancers improved to 3–0 (win-loss) for the solo lead in the standings.
It wasn’t an easy win for the Green Lancers as they found themselves in a down by five, 65–60, in the final 1:25.
Albina took matters into his own hands as he hit back-to-back triples to give UV the lead with under a minute to go.
UC scrambled in the next sequence as it turned the ball over and fouled UV’s Josue Segumpan, who then made his freebies to give the Green Lancers a 68–65 lead.
UC got a huge lift when Filvenson Culango hit a three pointer to tie the game at 68 with 1.4 seconds left.
UV had one last chance of winning in regulation, but Rey Suerte was unable to catch a lob pass from Sheldon Gahi.
In overtime, an 8–4 UV run late in the extra period capped off by Bassieru Sackor’s double pump basket gave the Green Lancers a comfortable 78–74 advantage with 45.2 seconds to go.
Suerte made a huge defensive play on the next sequence as he blocked Gileant Delator, virtually sealing the game.
Sackor finished with 18 points and nine rebounds while Segumpan and Suerte added 11 points and eight points, respectively.
Joven Tagudin top scored for the Webmasters with 24 points while Dacalos pitched in with 18 markers.
