The Visayan Electric Company (Veco) conducted a coastal cleanup last Saturday in Barangay Pooc, Talisay City.

Veco Customer Services Group assistant vice president Bailey del Castillo said the activity aimed to send a message to residents on the value of cleanliness.

Del Castillo said the activity was participated by more than 80 Veco employees from different departments and barangay workers which exceeded their target of 60 participants.

The participants were able to retrieve 85 sacks of wastes like diapers, plastics and tree leaves during the cleanup activity that was held at the back of Pooc gymnasium from 8 a.m. to almost 11 a.m.

Sacks of nonbiodegradable waste like diapers and plastics were buried in sand pit, while biodegradable waste such as leaves and plant stalks were turned over to the barangay for disposal.

Del Castillo said the coastal cleanup activity was the first one they conducted this year. Jary Gabunada Sibonghanoy of Veco Communications department said they were also planning to conduct a tree planting activity next month. The venue, however, has yet to be identified.
