Blue Marlins are Silliman University Founder’s Day swimfest champs anew

THE CEBU Blue Marlins (CBM) swimming club were crowned to become back-to-back champions in the 115th Silliman University Founder’s Day Novice and Competitive Age-Group Swimfest held in Dumaguete City over the weekend.

According to CBM head coach Rolando Alvarez, the Blue Marlins bagged 44 gold medals, 23 silver medals and 22 bronze medals for 886 points.

The Cebu team outplayed 11 other teams including home team Silliman University Red Stallions, who wound up with 607 points for second place. Bukidnon’s Kaamulan Aquatics garnered 299 points to place third.

Aside from winning top place, CBM’s swimmers also got individual awards. Tabunok Central School’s Mike Gabrielle Dela Serna, University of Cebu’s (UC) Junvic Tiro, Maria Michaela Recilla, Mai Kawabata and Karen Mae Indaya, and UC Lapu-Lapu-Mandaue’s Zurielle Kenzie Galo were named Most Outstanding swimmers in their respective age groups.

Indaya and Kawabata led CBM with five gold medals each. UC’s Shane Allyne Pareja and Recilla bagged four gold medals each while Zurielle Kenzie and Kirk Alexander Galo, Dela Serna, and Tiro added three gold medals each.

UC’s Rafael John Dacaldacal and Talisay Elementary School’s Carron Paulster Cañas also chipped in two gold medals. Other gold medalists were UC’s Rein Ezabela Villano, BRIGHT Academy’s Justine Reign Garrido, UC’s Jobert Indaya and Ian Jan Docabo.

The ladies 4x50m medley relay teams in the 11-12, 13-14, 15-17 and 18 over age groups also bagged gold medals for the Blue Marlins.
