LAWYER Ingemar Macarine, nicknamed “Pinoy Aquaman,” will be returning home with an unaccomplished mission in United Kingdom.

Macarine was supposed to swim across the 21-mile English Channel — from Dover, UK, to Calais,France — decided to cancel the attempt because of bad weather.

He announced the cancellation of what could have been a historic attempt through his Facebook account last Tuesday.

“It is unfortunate that I missed my chance of swimming the English Channel after one year of focused training, asthma attacks, left shoulder injury, time away from family and financial sacrifices,” Macarine stated.

Macarine said he had an opportunity to swim last August 9 to 16 which was neap tide but authorities disallowed because of bad weather that may surely jeopardize his safety and his navigator’s. Macarine said he has a good chance next month to swim but his three-month leave as a government lawyer under the Commission on Elections is only good until August 31. He added he has to get an approval from his office to file another leave.

He is set to return home on August 31. Macarine is the only Filipino to accomplish 22 long-distance open water swims here and abroad.
