The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Lady Jaguars didn’t show any signs of fatigue coming off a grueling five-set win as they nipped the University of Cebu (UC) Lady Webmasters, 25–16, 25–18, 25–12, yesterday in the Cesafi women’s volleyball tournament at the University of San Carlos (USC) Main Gym.

USJ-R, thus, booted UC out of the competition while joining the Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras in the round-robin semifinal round, which will begin next month.

Fresh from a 22–25, 25–14, 19–25, 25–16, 15–9 win over the University of San Carlos (USC) Lady Warriors the other night, the Lady Jaguars roared to a 17–7 start in the opening set where team captain Jessa Marie Jorquia, Linlyn Torado and Paula Maninang combined for 13 hits.

UC failed to find an answer to the USJ-R onslaught and fell into a maze of errors.

The Lady Jaguars sustained their momentum in the third, unloading a 10–4 attack finishing off the Lady Webmasters with a 15–8.

In the men’s division, the defending champions Cobras broke into the win column while handing the USC Warriors their first loss, 27–25, 25–22, 25–13.

The Warriors took an early 20–16 lead, but reigning MVP Dave Cabaron caught fire and single-handedly brought SWU back into the game.

Cabaron was a one-man wrecking crew when he scored five straight points in an 11–5 run that helped the Cobras take the first set.

The Cobras didn’t slow down in the next two sets, starting the third with a blazing 14–8 run before completely putting USC away with another 11–5 tear.

Also in men’s play, the Jaguars bounced back from a loss the other day as they pummeled the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, 25–18, 25–18, 25–21, while the Cebu Institute of Technology-University battled back from two sets down to beat the winless Webmasters, 25–21, 25–16, 25–13, 25–22, 15–12.
