The Mandaue City Council is inviting city residents to a public hearing on Tuesday to discuss legislation by Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna and Councilor Elstone Dabon aimed at improving the city’s traffic flow.
The first draft ordinance proposes to increase fines for traffic violations while the second one will define and impose fines on distracted driving.
Based on the proposed amendments, a traffic violator who stops at a No-Stopping sign area will be fined P500, up by P300 from P200.
The same amount will also be charged to those who didn’t follow No U-Turn signs and committed other minor traffic violations.
Truck ban violators will pay P1,000, up from P500. Glenn Antigua, operations chief of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team), said those planning to buy a car should look for designated parking areas.
Mandaue City Hall is enforcing a “No Contact Policy Apprehension” in which Team will send notices to violators of their offenses complete with photo capture.
The violators are told to settle their charges lest they face legal action.
Meanwhile, a second public hearing scheduled on Sept. 20 will also discuss two draft ordinances by Councilors Kevin Cabahug and Cynthia Remedio.
The first ordinance seeks to amend an existing city ordinance that requires proper labeling and sale of cigarettes and prohibiting smoking in public places.
The second ordinance seeks to amend an existing ordinance that regulates sale of tobacco to minors aged below 18 years old.
A Facebook post by the Mandaue City Council said the Sept. 13 and 20 public hearings will be held at the city session hall located at the second floor of the Mandaue City Hall from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
