Lancers look to recover

6:30 p.m. – UV vs USC (College)

AFTER getting stung by the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in their previous match, the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers seek to get back on track today when they take on the defending champions University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors in the 16th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

UV got the rug pulled from under them by USJ-R last weekend, 67–73, in a game where they led by 14 in the fourth canto. It was a maddening finish for the Lancers, so much so that head coach Gary Cortes tried to send a message to his wards by heading to the dugout earlier than usual with the loss all but certain.

And the road does not get any easier for the Green Lancers as they face off against the Warriors, the team that beat them for the championship last season. All while USC’s personnel has massively gone an overhaul, the Warriors remain a dangerous bunch with new head coach Rommel Rasmo finishing a lethal weapon in sniper Kevin Oleodo and rookies Jules Langres and Conrad Catapusan.

The trio combined for all the points in the fourth canto to beat the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 69–62, in their last game, a win that brought their win-loss record to an even 4–4.

The Green Lancers however, will seek for a repeat of their 72–64 conquest of the Warriors in their first round meeting to raise their current standing of 6–2.
In the high school division, the UV (4–2) will square off against the USPF (2–5).
