The likelihood of an intense La Niña phenomenon in the Visayas has declined, according to the Visayas office of the state weather bureau Pagasa.
During the “Disaster Preparedness for La Niña” forum at the Marcelo B. Fernan Cebu Press Center Tuesday morning, Pagasa Visayas director Oscar Tabada said the previous forecast of a 55 percent chance of La Niña lasting until February 2017 is longer true.
He said rainfall levels in the Visayas returned to normal. But Tabada said a maximum of eight typhoons are still expected to arrive before the year ends. He said local government units (LGUs) should still augment their disaster risk reduction efforts.
