The Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board (MCDCB) has agreed with the proposal of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority in Central Visayas (Tesda-7) to create the Metro Cebu Traffic Enforcement Academy (MCTEA).
During the full council meeting of MCDCB yesterday, the board’s Subcommittee on Transport and Traffic Management (SCTTM) presented the plan for the academy.
Lynn Gloria Madrona, vice chairperson of SCTTM, said the academy will help provide skills trainings to traffic enforcers to prepare them for the synchronization of traffic enforcement in Metro Cebu local government units (LGUs), including Danao City, Compostela, Liloan, Consolacion, Cordova, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Cebu City, Talisay City, Minglanilla, Naga City, San Fernando and Carcar City.
“The members of subcommittee composed of traffic managers from the 13 LGUs have agreed with the proposal of Tesda, saying it’s doable for MCDCB project,” Madrona said.
Madrona added that MCTEA will also help professionalize the traffic enforcers.
“We all know that most traffic enforcers in Metro Cebu are job order employees, and they do not enjoy the full benefits required by law,” Madrona said.
She said that with the creation of the academy, traffic enforcers would then be called as professionals and the local government units concerned would then allocate some budget for their benefits.
Through the academy, traffic enforcers would also have the chance to become regular employees.
The academy has not yet started since it is still on validation process.
“The competency standard being required by Tesda is already there. So (today) we will have the validation process and other persons were invited (to discuss this),” Madrona said.
As per timeline, the MCTEA is supposed to start the first batch of training February next year, said Madrona.
Although they haven’t yet finalized the qualification of trainees, Madrona said that Tesda can cater 25 up to 30 trainees per batch.
