Light to moderate rain in Cebu and the rest of the Visayas today

Moderate and heavy rains will be experienced the two day in Cebu today even as the island will not be in the direct path of Tropical Storm “Megi,” which is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) within the day.

The storm will be named “Helen” when it enters PAR and is projected to the heading for Northern Luzon, according to the latest weather update from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

TS Megi was spotted 1,510 kilometers east of Central Luzon, moving in a west-northwest direction at 24 kilometers per hour (kph), packing a maximum sustained wind of 95 kph and gustiness of up to 120 kph near the center.

Despite not having direct effects from Megi, the entire Visayas, some parts of Mindanao and Southern Luzon will be affected by an Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) that will be bring cloudy skies and light to moderate rains to these areas.

The Pag-asa also issued a thunderstorm watch for Metro Cebu at 10 a.m. that will likely develop within 12 hours.

At midday today, Pagasa reported light to moderate rains affecting over the northern Cebu, including Medellin, Bogo City, San Remegio, Carmen, Catmon and other nearby areas; and in Cebu City.
