Senior citizens were the highlight of today’s AGIO-PIA 7 Forum as Artemia Degamo and Leah Quinatana of DSWD – 7 talked about different programs and activities aimed to help the plight of seniors.

The first week of October has been designated as Elderly Filipino Week with various senior-citizen-centered activities lined up for every local governments by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The event was launched during a forum held at the Philippine Information Agency Tuesday morning.

DSWD officers Artemia Degamo and Leah Quinatana said a social pension program will provide quarterly subsidy to indigent seniors. But due to limited funds, 102,000 indigent seniors in the region are wait-listed while only 62,000 seniors are beneficiaries.
