South Coastal Road accident claims a life

A man, who was thrown off his motorcycle when it fell into a street gutter, died after he was ran over by a ten-wheeler truck on Friday afternoon at the South Coastal Road in Talisay City.

Ramon Cabusas, 55, died on the spot while his son, Arvin Cabusas, 24, who was Ramon’s backrider, suffered cuts and bruises and was rushed to the hospital for treatment, said SPO4 Roger Omolon, Chief of the Talisay City Traffic Office.

According to investigation of the Talisay City Traffic Office, Ramon and his son were traveling to Cebu City from Talisay City on a motorcycle along the South Coastal Road at 3:20 p.m.

Ramon then tried to overtake a vehicle when his motorcycle fell on a gutter, throwing him and his son off the motorcycle.

Ramon landed in the middle of the road while his son landed on the sidewalk.

It was at this instance when the truck driven by Philip Nacario Jr. passed by.

Nacario, who surrendered to police, said he did not notice Ramon land on the road because the victim landed on the truck’s blind spot.

Nacario said he did not even notice Ramon overtake another vehicle, and he only stopped when he felt the truck ran over something.

As of press time, Arvin Cabusas is confined at the Talisay City District Hospital while Ramon Cabusas’ remains are at a funeral parlor.

The truck driver, Nacario, was detained at the Talisay City Hall detention cell, pending the filing of charges.
