Betten defends 5i50 crown; Cebu’s Ycong rules Filipino Elite

Panglao, Bohol – Australia’s Sam Betten and New Zealand’s Amelia Watkinson triumphed in the Bellevue 5i50 Triathlon at the Bellevue Hotel and Resort Sunday morning.

Betten dominated the men’s pro category after clocking an elapsed time of two hours, one minute, and 40 seconds (2:01:40) while Watkinson came surging in the women’s pro race with 2:10:19.

Betten now captured his fourth 5i50 triathlon crown. He won two 5i50 races last year before snaring another one last June in the Regent 5i50 in Subic.

Finishing second was Germany’s Henry Beck (2:10:07), who was making his debut in the Philippine triathlon scene. Philippine-based Dan Brown, meanwhile, landed at third with a time of 2:29:37.

In the women’s pro category, defending champion Dimity Lee-Duke fell to second place behind Watkinson, recording a 2:15:10 time while Michelle Duffield salvaged at third with 2:32:22.

Cebu-based Jorry Ycong (2:10:55), meanwhile, landed first place in the men’s Filipino Elite category. He dethroned defending champion Paul Jumamil, who settled for second (2:11:55) while Emmanuel Comendador wound up at third (2:11:56).
