M Lhuillier gives aid to Yolanda survivors

Michael Lhuillier during MLhuillier’s relief operations

MARIA Cometa, a 78-year old Yolanda survivor from the hilly slopes of Bogo, said that she prays for good health and protection from all harm and evil when asked what she wants from the dear Sto. Niño.

With the turnout of events, this grandmother, shares that getting sick and adding to the concerns of her family that may now be as high as the hills they live on top of just isn’t the way to go.

Nanay Maria, as others would call her, is just one of the many who shares in the dilemma of survival after being left with almost nothing in the wake of the world’strongest typhoon yet known to man. To others it may already be months ago but to her will always seem like yesterday. And what reminds her the most is the sight of her family seeing no roof above their heads.

Luckily on their 3rd visit to the northern part of Cebu alone, last January 12, M Lhuillier Philippines, a non-bank financial services institution, stumbles upon the opportunity to help out Nanay Maria. An even longer string of adjacent residences in Bogo City from areas in Tabogon, Daanbantayan, Medellin & San Remegio also received supplies from the benevolent convoy.

Led by Michael Lhuillier himself, Executive Vice President (EVP) of M Lhuillier, together with his three sons and senior managers, puts on his cap, gets off the car and hands-out numerous 3X6 meter tarps for roofing to damaged homes they see along the road. Supporting relief packs were also passed out to a hefty number of families to help augment their basic edible stocks for the household.

Education being the company’s main advocacy, M Lhuillier Philippines also graced help to damaged schools such as Daanbantayan National High School of Daanbantayan and Kawit Elementary School of Medellin. The entire team turned-over more than a hundred G.I sheets and about five hundred school backpacks complete with school supplies and an oral hygiene kit.

“It will never be over until we all help,” says Lhuillier. “What we want is for things to get back to normal. For Kids to go back to school and parents to stop worrying and start working again,” he adds.

Help has always been a man’s legacy to a brother in need. And denying it is a step back to the unity that our nation has always strived to aim for.
