A total of 68 women beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Cebu learned basic cosmetic treatment after more than three weeks of training at the Rose Institute of Cosmetology and Pharmacy.

This Tesda-accredited short course is one of the various livelihood skills training sessions conducted by the DSWD Central Visayas, through its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), for the 4Ps beneficiaries.

During the training, the participants learned how to perform various cosmetic treatments like manicure, pedicure, foot spa and hand spa.

For Leonora Indab of Barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City, the completion of the training serves as a fresh start for her family.

“Wala gyud ko naka-graduate ug high school mao to nga sayo pa lang nakakat-on na ko unsaon pagpanginabuhi (I have not finished high school. That is why at an early age, I learned how to work),” said Indab in her testimony during the graduation ceremony.

Indab said she engaged in menial jobs to augment her mother’s income and to support her younger siblings.

“Nakatrabaho ko sa Makati City tungod sa akong tito og naka-experience ko nga makatrabaho sa usa ka salon og nag-sales lady pud ko didto (I worked in Makati City because of my uncle, and there I experienced working in a salon and being a sales lady),” she added.

“Pagbalik nako diri sa Cebu, nakadungog man ko sa akong silingan nga naa daw training nga gi-offer ang DSWD kabahin sa pag-manicure ug desidido man gyud ko nga mo-apil (When I returned to Cebu, I’ve heard from my neighbor that the DSWD was offering a training, so I decided to join),” she recalled.

Indab admitted that having been trained by beauty care professionals is different from just learning on her own.

“Katoohan ka sa imong mga customer ug ilhon ka kon nakahuman ka og vocational course (Customers will trust you and recognize you if you finish a vocational course),” she said.

These women graduates will be employed at the Salon de Rose and Nuat Thai Foot & Body Massage.
