Revamp of Cebu City police officers starts

AT LEAST 40 police officers in four police precincts in Cebu City were relieved from their posts and given new assignments, signaling the start of the revamp of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) personnel.

“We need to rotate our personnel. Those affected by the revamp are those who have stayed in a precinct for several years now,” said Senior Supt. Joel Doria, director of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

The four precincts, which are affected by the first phase of the revamp, are San Nicolas, Carbon, Talamban and Guadalupe.

Doria said the reshuffling of police personnel would involve all the 11 precincts in Cebu City eventually.

“The revamp shall be done gradually. Otherwise, it will hamper our activities and operations,” he said.

Doria said the reshuffling of personnel was done upon the request of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, which prompted Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, director of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas, to order the CCPO revamp.

Osmeña particularly cited the failure of the San Nicolas Police Station to curb illegal gambling in the area as the reason for his request and his recent decision to stop the city government’s monthly stipend of the 52 policemen of the police station.
