A marker at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral was unveiled today by the National Historical Commission to officially recognize its historical significance.
NHC chairperson Dr. Maria Serena Diokno said the marker is a testament of the church’s significance in the community and the people’s resilience over the years.
Diokno said the marker also serves as a reminder of the importance of the cathedral in the country’s history.
In part, the marker reads: “Itinayo ang unang katedral gawa sa kahoy at nipa, at naging sentro ng diyosesis ng Cebu, 1595.”
