ONE died, while four others were injured in a four-motorcycle smashup along the national road in Barangay Guadalupe, Carcar City, southern Cebu around 6 p.m. last Friday.
Pronounced dead on arrival at Carcar District Hospital, was Renan Mendaros, the backrider of the motorcycle driven by Ronel Pajardo, 28, both from Barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City.
Aside from Pajardo, also wounded were Jeffrey Baraquia, 37, and his wife Jessa, and Roldan Campogan, both from Barangay Guadalupe.
PO2 Lauro Laurel of Carcar City Police Station, said that Pajardo and Mendaros were travelling towards Carcar City to attend the fiesta celebration, when another motorcycle rider who tried to overtake another vehicle hit them.
Due to the impact, Pajardo also hit Baraquia’s motorcycle causing them to fall.
Mendaros who was still lying on the road was allegedly hit by Campogan.
PO2 Laurel said the driver of the motorcycle who first hit Pajardo did not stop and is now at large.
