Acting provincial jail warden assures facility still under tight security despite move

The Cebu provincial government assured that the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) is still under tight security despite its decision to pull out 20 elements of the Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) from the jail facility.

CPDRC acting jail warden Dr. Gil Macato said they pulled out last Friday noon the 20 policemen under the Cebu Provincial Police Office as ordered by Governor Hilario Davide III.

“Gi-pull out na sila kay siguro tan-aw ni governor nga ang bag-ong (management) can handle the jail facility well (They were pulled out maybe because the governor thinks that the new management can already handle the jail facility well),” Macato said.

Last August, the elite policemen were installed at the CPDRC to beef up security amidst reports that a certain group was poised to spring out confessed drug lord Alvaro “Barok” Alvaro, and that contraband continued to slip inside the jail. The Capitol also implemented new rules for visitation.

Visitors were no longer allowed to talk to the inmates at the quadrangle but only through a glass barrier with no physical contact.

Macato said the PPSC men were only assigned temporarily to augment security at the CPDRC.

Macato said he has been ordering the jail guards and blue guards to be stricter in admitting visitors.
