ILOILO City – Cebuana Olympian Mary Joy Tabal made a historic feat in the finals of the 40th National Milo Marathon after she defended her title for the fourth straight time.

Apart from becoming the first runner to complete a four-peat in the country’s biggest footrace, Tabal shattered the old record in the race’s women’s division that she herself set in the 2013 Milo National Finals.

Tabal bested her previous record of two hours and 48 minutes by clocking in 2:47.53.

“I am very happy. I was not expecting this four-peat win. I did not put that in my mind, I just told myself to relax and enjoy the race,” said 27-year-old Tabal.
