Electrical misuse causes fire in Mandaue

A fire damaged a rented house made of light materials along M.L. Quezon Street in Barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City past 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The fire broke out in the house of 43-year-old Aura Reyes, which neighbor believed was caused by a wire dangling above the main door of the house.

Reyes was at work when the incident happened.

Rodel Tagalog, a 42-year old carpenter, who was working at a nearby establishment said he noticed the fire and immediately alerted Reyes’ neighbors.

“Pagli-li nako nagsiga-siga na didto mao to nanawag ko sa mga silingan (I saw that the house was already on fire so I called on the neighbors to alert them),” Tagalog told Cebu Daily News.

Tagalog, together with residents in the area, then tried to extinguish the fire with pails of water to prevent the fire from spreading to the surrounding houses. They were able to put out the fire by 12 noon before firefighters arrived in the area.
