Five arrested for drugs

Operation Double Barrel Alpha netted five persons allegedly transacting the sale of illegal drugs in Sitio Lupa, Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City.

Members of the Station Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operation Section (SAIDSOS) of the Abellana, Cebu City Police Station 2 were on patrol when they spotted a certain Rico Almario Durens, 33, handling over small sachets believed to contain shabu to two male companions later identified as Jovert Alcoriza, 38, and Jacky Legaria, 28, both waiters at a hotel in Cebu City.
Also arrested in the said operation were Donald Joseph Puerto, 23 years old, and Alexander Luna, 37 years old.

Police Regional Office spokesperson Chief Inspector Dexter Calacar said police station commanders must not be complacent in filing their reports of their achievements.

“Our evaluation assessment is done weekly. They can’t claim victory in one operation alone. It must be consistent,” Calacar said in a dyAB interview.

He said some station commanders have been relieved of their commands after their evaluations fell short of what was expected of them.

“It doesn’t mean that they’ve done nothing. It’s just that it was short of what was expected,” he said.

Meanwhile, Catmon police are still investigating the death of a barangay councilor of San Jose, Catmon, who was shot by two unidentified motorcycle-riding men.

Jeffrey Comeros was pronounced dead on arrival at Juan Dosado Memorial Medical Center in Sogod after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds in his body.

Police said the killing could have been drug related as the victim was a surrenderer. Or it could have been done by disgruntled customers of his automotive repair shop.

According to PO2 Aaron Arizo, the victim was fixing a vehicle inside his shop when the two motorcycle-riding men suddenly appeared, wearing bonnets. The back rider pulled out a gun and shot him several times.

His helper couldn’t identify the victim’s assailants.
