WITH the highest combined scores culled from the judges’ ratings and the number of text votes, 17-year-old Niel Murillo of Cebu was named the first winner of the Kapamilya talent show, “Pinoy Boyband Superstar” last Saturday night.
Niel, a native of Bogo City, northern Cebu, performed Major Lazer’s “Cold Water” with another contestant Russell Reyes for the final round, earning him good feedback from the judges.
His fellow bandmates were named last Sunday night and they are Russell Reyes, Ford Valencia, Tristan Ramirez and Joao Constancia.
All five will be part of a new band called BoyBandPH and will be receiving P1 million and a contract with ABS-CBN.
Judge Aga Muhlach praised Murillo for his vastly improved confidence, while singer Yeng Constantino reiterated that he is one of the strongest singers in the competition.
When he auditioned, Niel vowed to help his blind brother for his medication.
