AFTER staging the highly successful “Kita Ang Katag Chess Tournament” last month, Cebu’s chess patron Dr. Darcy Tabotabo will host another unique tournament today dubbed as “Battle of Workhorses” at the Knight’s Attack Chess Café in Robinson’s Galleria Cebu.
The event will pit two teams composed of six players each playing on a solitary board.
Competitors will work together as a team and decide collectively their every move in order to outsmart the opposing team.
The event will be a best of three games with 45-minute and five second increment playing time per game.
“Twelve of the best players here will try to work together as a team and that will be interesting because this will showcase the collective minds of Cebu’s chess,” Tabotabo told CDN.
The winning team will pocket P6,000.
Team A will have “Kita Ang Katag Chess Tournament” grand champion and International Master (IM) Kim Steven Yap, Rommel Ganzon, National Master (NM) Arnolito Cadiz, Rodrigo Alejandre, Carlos Moreno and Vone Tibod.
Team B is composed of NM Merben Roque, Anthony Makinano, Edsel Montoya, Richard Natividad, Ronald Ganzon and Domingueto Ehte.
Tabotabo’s next tournament is slated on March pitting his “Darcy’s Workhorse Chess Team” against top local wood pushers.
