THE MUSTANGS ran their winning streak up to seven games after they squeaked past the Tigers, 84-78, in the Cebu Weekend Basketball Club tournament last weekend at the City Sports Club Cebu.

Chase Cokaliong once again spearheaded the charge as he scored 18 points while big man Justin dela Cruz backed him up with 13 boards, two steals and two blocks. The Mustangs remain as the lone unbeaten team in the competition.

Carl Valencia had a splendid outing with 29 points and 17 rebounds but it went for naught as the Tigers fell to 2-5 (win-loss).

In other games, the Dragons upped their record to 2-4 after they bested the Gorillas, 61-58 behind the all-around efforts of Clark Con Ui, who had 13 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.

The Hogs got their third win against four losses with an 84-77 win over the Bulldogs. Jobo Ocana fired in 20 points to help them hand the Bulldogs their first loss in six matches and negate Ralph Belarmino’s monster game of 36 points and 16 boards.

The Toros also emerged with a 64-51 win over the Parrots as former University of San Carlos skipper Nico Magat tallied 18 points.

Another former Warrior, Prince Malana, pulled down 13 boards while ex-Southwestern University wingman Jan Auditor dished out six assists to push their record to 4-3. The Parrots dropped to 2-5.

The Bears outlasted the Cobras in overtime, 96-93, to up their mark to 5-1. It was not an easy mountain to climb for the Bears which had to rally from a 10-point deficit in the final canto. Former SWU guard Francis Ortega waxed hot with 34 points while AJ San Juan grabbed 18 boards.

The Cobras, which fell to 4-3, got 23 from Michael Balankig.

The Roosters also roasted the Penguins, 69-61, to improve to 5-2. PAREF-Springdale standout Joshua Balankig paced the winners with 17 points.
