Around 120 delegates of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit meetings set to be held this week in Cebu, will be treated to a tour of Museo Sugbo, located four blocks away from the iconic Plaza Independencia along M.J. Cuenco Avenue, Cebu City.
According to Provincial Tourism Officer Joselito “Boboi” Costas, the tour will be scheduled at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 6.
The guests will be treated with a “barrio fiesta” reception at the museum as well as folk dances to be performed by the renowned Sandiego Dance Company.
Organizers thought of a barrio fiesta atmosphere because it connotes a warm neighborhood celebration, which is a distinct feature in the Filipino culture. Under Philippine setting, a barrio fiesta is celebrated to mark the feast day of an area’s patron saint.
According to Costas, the delegates will be toured around Museo Sugbo in four batches of 30 delegates each.
“We are actually preparing for four tour guides,” Costas said.
The tour is expected to last for 30 minutes to an hour before the delegates will proceed to the Provincial Capitol for a dinner reception hosted by the Cebu provincial government.
Security measures at the museum and the Cebu Provincial Capitol have been put in place.
A dry-run for the tour will be held today at 4 p.m.
Museo Sugbo is the Cebu provincial museum located in the former Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC).
Built in 1871, partly using coral stone blocks from the demolished Parian church, “Carcel de Cebu” not only housed criminals during the Philippine Revolution but also Katipuneros incarcerated without trial.
