Village chief starts serving two-month suspension

A BARANGAY official accused of threatening two women at gunpoint began serving his two-month suspension after receiving a copy of the suspension order from Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing’s office last Saturday afternoon.

The suspension order against Barangay Cubacub chairman Almario Bihag came after the Mandaue City Council found him guilty of misconduct in office.

“I’ll just serve the suspension and won’t object to their findings,” Bihag said in Cebuano.

The City Council’s committee on good governance and public accountability found Bihag guilty of threatening two women during a multi-sectoral coalition election at the Barangay Cubacub gym in Nov. 26 last year.

An administrative complaint was filed by Winnie Garcia Sicad of Barangay Cubacub and Rolita M. Balane of Zone Sili, Barangay Paknaan, a job order employee.

Balane said she was told by Bihag over the phone not to continue with the election and when she refused, he went to the gym and poked a gun at her face.

The incident was caught on video by Sicad, who claimed that Bihag tried to strangle her after he found out she was recording the scene.

While Bihag apologized to the two women, he insisted that he was not armed when he arrived at the area.
