CEBU Gov. Hilario Davide III said the dismissal of former Interior and Local Government secretary Ismael Sueno was caused by politics.
“It saddens me because in the very, very short time that I’ve known Secretary Sueno, I’ve seen his sincerity as he did his job, that he is really a decent man.
Perhaps he was just a victim of politics within the DILG,” Davide said.
Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement that President Rodrigo Duterte removed Sueno after a Monday night Cabinet meeting due to “loss of trust and confidence.”
“From what I’ve known of him and I’ve also had some friends who’ve known him, Sueno is a decent man. I also believe that he is decent and upright,” Governor Davide said.
The governor also declined to comment on reports that former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos may take over as Interior and Local Government secretary.
“That’s speculative, we really don’t know. That remains to be seen. I will not speculate on that. For me, I believe in Secretary Sueno and his dismissal saddens me,” Davide said.
