SWU Cobras look to shore up lineup in tryouts

THE Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras are stepping up in their bid to bolster their lineup as they host a four-day tryout starting April 19 at the SWU Coliseum.

The Lady Cobras, winners of seven Cesafi titles in the past eight years, will be facing a dilemma at the end of next season as they are set to lose more than half of their lineup.

Since most of their players are graduating next year, SWU will only have Dhalia Babatid, AJ Remollo, Jessa Semblante, Elah Silva as the only players who will be left from the 2016 Cesafi women’s champion squad.

Among those players who are set to graduate next year are 2016 Cesafi Most Valuable Player (MVP) Therese Rae Ramas, 2015 league MVP Floremel Rodriguez, Sheena Abegael Quiño, Dyan Darantinao, Nathalie Gimeno, and reigning league-best attacker Janelle Cabahug.

“We are looking for players who have the skills, potentials in height and most especially have the right attitude to learn,” said SWU women’s and girls mentor Roy Ulan.

The women’s tryouts will be scheduled from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. while the girl’s tryouts will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
