The Gethsemane Parish in Mandaue City wasn’t spared by the Easter Sunday downpour with floodwaters reaching ankle deep.

But it did not stop people from attending the Mass, prompting one parishioner to remark, “That is what faith and love means.”

Unknown to many, the Sunday after Easter Sunday is the feast of the Divine Mercy.

Persons who recently went to confession; attended Mass on Sunday; and prayed the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be for the intention of the Holy Father receive a plenary indulgence or the total remission of temporal punishment in purgatory.

“Kon mamatay ta after makadawat og plenary indulgence sa Divine Mercy Sunday, sigurado gyud ta malangit diretso (If one dies after receiving a plenary indulgence on Divine Mercy Sunday, it’s a guaranteed trip straight to Heaven),” a nun quipped.

News about the presence of the Abu Sayyaf bandits in Bohol province had a lot of Cebu residents anxious about their safety.

One such resident wondered how the government allowed these bandits to thrive in Sulu, their base of operations.

Siloy’s pal said one way to stop these bandits is to kidnap their loved ones and see if they won’t also capitulate like their victims.
