Remolino, Manayon log wins in Capiz

THERE is no stopping Cebuano junior triathletes Andrew Kim Remolino and Karen Andrea Manayon.

This after both won titles in the sprint distance of the Capiz Triaksyon last Sunday in Roxas City, Capiz Province.

Remolino and Manayon, both from Talisay City, south Cebu recently dominated the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) Cebu Leg on Camotes Islands and this time, they showcased their talents against older and more experienced triathletes in the 750-meter swim, 20k bike and 6k run event.

The 17-year old Remolino, a member of the Philippine national team for triathlon, won the men’s crown by clocking 1:23.27.

He beat Boholano Emmanuel Comendador, who placed second with a time of 1:26.06. Louis Jamili Azarraga rounded off the top three in the men’s sprint distance with a time of 1:30.08.

The 14-year old Manayon ruled the distaff side with a time of 1:37.11.

Maria Loryne Casto Lencioco (1:48.29) and Hygeia Serencio Chi (1:59.47) were her runners up.

In the standard distance, Philippine national team for triathlon member Kimberly Michelle Kilgroe edged pro triathlete Monica Torres to win the title.

Kilgroe clocked 2:48.49 while Torres finished in 2:53.37. Completing the top three is Cebuana Cianyl Jamae Gnzales of Team Rider Omega Pro Triathlon, who finished in 3:12.06.

Another Philippine team member, John Leerams Chicano, topped the men’s standard division with a time of 2:27.09.

Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Nikko Huelgas (2:28.59) and Cebu’s Jorry Ycong (2:38.40) finished second and third, respectively.

Both Manayon and Remolino will vie against foreign triathletes in this Saturday’s International Triathlon Union (ITU) Subic Bay International Triathlon in Pampanga.
