ABOUT 76 persons were arrested in several drug and anti-illegal gambling busts as part of Oplan “One Time, Big Time” in Cebu City last Wednesday evening.
Of that number, 47 face charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, said Senior Supt. Joel Doria, Cebu City police chief.
He said their operations yielded 15.42 grams of shabu valued at P380,998.
“We will continue conducting operations like this because the results are good. We will continue our campaign against illegal drugs and gambling,” Doria said.
Police also seized P1,968 cash from illegal gambling and robbery suspects. Doria said there will be no letup in their campaign against criminality.
Among those arrested was 24-year-old Raymond Rosales, a robbery suspect and resident of Sitio Ponce, Barangay Carreta in Cebu City.
In related news, a barangay tanod died in a drug bust in Sitio Ylaya, Barangay Poblacion in Danao City at past 3 a.m. yesterday.
Joseph Ryan Ebardoni, a resident of the area, was declared dead by doctors of the Danao City District Hospital after he was brought there by police.
SPO1 Arnold Labini of the Danao City police precinct said their asset bought some drugs from Ebardoni, considered a high-value target, at his home.
Ebardoni sensed the presence of police and ran off, firing at pursuing policemen who shot him several times.
Police seized a loaded pistol and several sachets of shabu worth P300,000 as well as the P500 marked money used by their asset.
Elsewhere, a ronda tanod was arrested after he allegedly threatened his fellow official at Barangay Manlilikit, Argao town last Wednesday evening.
The 57-year-old suspect identified as Alejandro Alcain is detained at the Argao police precinct.
