CEBUANO tennis prodigy Venz Anton Louise Alforque walked away as the biggest winner in the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala (PPS-PEPP) regional age-group tennis tournament at the Maasin City Tennis Courts in Leyte over the weekend.
The top-seeded Alforque from Naga, Cebu who is coming off a championship victory last week in the PPS-PEPP Baybay City leg, completed a treble in the tournament en route to being named as the Most Valuable Player.
He continued his scorching hot run as he clobbered Ceasar Salimbangon, 6-3, 6-1, to nail the 16-U title then stopped Ken Mejia, 6-2, 6-3, to pocket the 18-U diadem before teaming up with fellow Cebuano Vhon Tudtud to defeat the pair of Troy Llamas and JJ Gazo, 8-1, in the 18-U doubles finals.
Meanwhile, Carcar, Cebu’s Elizabeth Abarquez played true to form as she upended Tracy Llamas twice in the tournament, scoring a 6-3, 6-0, romp for the 16-U title and pulling off a 6-4, 6-2 win in the 18-U finals.
The 15-year-old Abarquez had a chance to snag three titles but she, along with partner Janzen Albino, lost to Llamas and Alexa Milliam, 8-7 (2), in the championship round of the 18-under girls doubles competition.
Other Cebu bets who ended up with a title were Gio Manito and Aaron Tabura, who ruled the 10-unisex doubles division with an 8-1 massacre of Rasheed Lucman and Rhiann Dedace, and Salimbangon, who dominated James Casem, 6-2, 6-0, for the 14-U boys plum.
