Dalaguete and Samboan broke a four-way logjam at the top after they hacked out separate wins last Saturday night in the South Division Bracket 2 of the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup 21-Under Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament held at Dalaguete Sports and Cultural Complex.
Dalaguete nailed an 85-66 win over Boljoon, while Samboan nipped Santander, 83-70.
Dalaguete and Samboan both improved to 3-1 (win-loss), bolstering their bid of making it to the quarterfinal round.
Tournament format states that teams in the same bracket will play in a single round robin with the top two teams advancing to the quarterfinal round.
Dalaguete and Boljoon came into their respective matches tied with Samboan and Ginatilan at the number one spot.
Ginatilan couldn’t hang on to the leadership after it bowed to Oslob in the other game, 69-73.
The losses dropped Boljoon and Ginatilan to a four-way tie at second place with Alcoy and Oslob with identical 2-2 records.
Ericson Sangoyo led Dalaguete with 24 points, while Frederick John Selerio added 19 markers.
Kenjie Gumera paced Boljoon with 21 markers.
John Michael France Rosal, on the other hand, spearheaded Samboan by firing 19 markers. Joshua Balankig chipped in 16 markers, Eves Niño
Manolong and Louie Jay Señagan donated 12 apiece.
Spyke Miramon and John Clint Puyod scored 13 each to lead Santander, which stayed winless after four games.
Over at the Asturias Municipal Gym, Tuburan dominated Sogod, 101-66, to book a quarterfinal seat in North Division Bracket 2.
Mike Parilla tallied 18 points, Lorimar Tagalog and Joycelee Oropino donated 15 apiece, Miguelito Jusay added 13 and Tyrone Diamante delivered 12 in Tuburan’s fifth win in as many matches.
Danao City, on the other hand, kept its quarterfinal hopes alive after escaping Borbon, 79-78, while Balamban also stayed on hunt in the playoff race by pulling off a 91-64 triumph over Asturias.
