AT LEAST 55 swimmers will be taking part in the 10th edition of the Olango Challenge today starting at the Pacific Cebu Resort in Barangay Suba-Basbas in Lapu-Lapu City.
The proceeds of the event will support the senior high school education of the students on Olango Island, which is located five kilometers east of Mactan Island.
“This year we hope to raise about a million pesos to be used for the senior high school students in Olango (and) to help with their senior high school programs which are already starting because of the move towards K to 12,” said Jose Antonio Aboitiz, Visayas Regional Committee Chairman of the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP).
Since security is a priority for the organizers, marshals and personnel from the Red Cross, Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF), Island Buzz Philippines and Kapit Sisig will be scattered around the venue.
“All of these are in line with protocols set by Philippine Swimming, Inc., who’s been our partner for all the Olango Challenges,” added Aboitiz.
Aside from the homegrown swimmers from Cebu, tankers from the provinces of Leyte and Negros Occidental will also compete in the event.
